ONE NAME, TWO GENERATIONS
In 2015 a European father and son team hypothesized about creating a sustainable building material using plastics that were overrunning local recycling centers. How could they create an alternative to standard concrete with better sustainability properties, equal or improved structural properties, and help overcome the worsening plastic pandemic?
They began engineering various mixtures, binding materials, and processes to perfect their theory. After countless trials and errors, Oto Nagy Sr. and Oto Nagy Jr. perfected the process of replacing gravel in concrete, or crushed marble in terrazzo, with recycled plastics. The crushed pieces of plastic waste in the concrete resembled terrazzo, and further tests also confirmed the excellent properties of this new building material. It was also very attractive, more cost-effective, and greener than standard concrete. Terratico™ thus brought an answer to the most important question:
What kind of planet will we leave to our children?
In 2050, there will be more plastic waste than fish in the oceans. We don’t want to have to say “Sorry, kids, this didn’t work out for us.” Terratico™ means seeing plastic waste as a necessary raw material. Plastic waste will never disappear completely, but the more Terratico™ is used around the world, the cleaner a planet we will leave to our children and grandchildren.
Today Terratico™ is available in both Europe and North America.
